Description

Sources Sought. Bechtel Nevada is seeking sources that have extensive experience in designing and operating Dense Plasma Focus accelerators. The organization must have an operating Dense Plasma Focus Accelerator that is using more than 100 KiloJoules of energy storage. The requirements will consist of two tasks: The first task is to provide a design review of a Dense Plasma Focus tube. Included in the design review are inductance analysis, and providing recommendations for coupling the tube to a power source. These recommendations include specifying appropriate trigger generators, cables, and rail gaps. The second task is to provide two days of operating machine time on a pulsed neutron source. The source has to be capable of generating intense neutron pulses with pulse widths less than 150 ns. The machine must be configured so that lead probes used in nuclear testing and at Sandia's Z machine can acquire more than 500 counts per pulse. In addition, scintillation detector using plastic scintillators coupled to photomultipliers can be radiated with neutrons in a linear current range. Interested parties should submit a brief narrative of capabilities that demonstrate skills for the design review as indicated above, and verification of having a facility that can provide the required neutron exposures.
