Phuong, Purchasing Agent, (301) 496-6127 It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine to procure Cataloging Services to acquire limited or copy-cataloged bibliographic records for 700-1000 Slavic language monographs, consisting of a mix of Byelorussian, Bulgarian,Czech, Kazakh, Kirghiz, Moldavian, Polish, Serbo-Croatian (Cyrillic), Slovak,Slovenian, Russian, and Ukrainian. The project entails: 1) searching titles in the OCLC WorldCAT, an outside bibliographic source, to identify any matching bibliographic records available; 2) tagging the identified records found with NLM's holding symbol and adding NLM's unique control numbers, NLM subject headings (MeSH), and assigning a classification number (according to the latest edition of the NLM Classification or, in fields peripheral to medicine, the Library of Congress schedules) to the record located in the OCLC WorldCAT; 3) preparing limited cataloging records for those items for which no available copy cataloging is identified according to NLM procedures for limited cataloging; and 4) providing the bibliographic records (either tagged as copy or created as limited) to NLM on tape in USMARC format. The period of performance for this purchase order is anticipated to be a base period of one (1) year with an option to extend the term for one (1) successive one (1) year period; and one successive five (5) month period. Release of the Request for Quotations will be approximately fifteen (15) days from publication date of this synopsis.
