- Description
- NAICS Code: 541690 The U.S. EPA National Homeland Security Research Center, located in Research Triangle Park, NC, is currently evaluating the interaction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) with common interior surface materials, (also known as the sink effect). The main objective of this project is to recommend a sink model that can predict, with reasonable accuracy, the amount of VOCs and SVOCs adsorbed/absorbed by the surface materials. The output of this study has potential applications in both exposure modeling and building protection. There are two types of sink models, those based on surface adsorption and those based on molecular diffusion in the solids. Solid/air partition coefficient and molecular diffusion coefficient in solid material are two key parameters for the models in the latter category. Under this requirement, the EPA requires a contractor to experimentally determine these physical properties for the materials selected by EPA. Specifically, the contractor shall experimentally determine the solid/air partition coefficient and apparent molecular diffusivity for 36 chemical/material combinations. The following materials and chemicals shall be tested and will be provided by the EPA: gypsum board (painted and unpainted), carpet, and vinyl flooring, ethylbenzene, n-decane, and n-dodecane. This acquisition is processed using full and open competition under NAICS code 541690. The acquisition will be processed under FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. It is anticipated that a Request For Quotation (RFQ) will be issued on or about August 25, 2004. To receive a copy of the RFQ, interested firms must submit a written request to Mr. Josh Bowers (bowers.joshua@epa.gov) by 2:00 PM EST TUESDAY AUGUST 24, 2004. Requests submitted via email are preferred or a fax is acceptable. The fax number is 513-487-2109. Requests must include company name, mailing address
